Striped Frames

March 20, 2013

After months of debating…here goes! My very first post! There will be lots of mistakes along the way but I have to at least start somewhere, don’t you think?

This is one of the easiest projects I have done and yet, I love the impact it had on Kuy’s Big Boy room! My inspiration came from this playroom over at The Handmade Home (is she not amazing!?!?). I’m in love with her use of color throughout the space, as well as how stylish yet playful it seems!  I love her big frames and hope to do those when we move into our new house (the rooms are much bigger and there is more wall space!).

You will only need five items for this project: painter’s tape, two colors of whatever kind/color of paint (I used blue and white acrylic), and of course, a paint brush. You may also want sandpaper to rough it up a bit.

This frame is $1 at Michael’s. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have glass but if you have boys like me, it’s probably better that way!

Paint two-three coats of desired base color to cover the frame well. Let dry completely before putting the tape on the frame for the stripes.

For this step, I used an old brush because it gave the dry brush effect that I wanted. Yes, that also means I am super cheap.

After it was dry, I just used a scrap piece of sandpaper to rough it up just a little bit to give it that vintage look.Striped Frame

What do you think? Not bad for $1, right!?

  4. Love these frames! So cute! I really like that they don’t have glass in them. I also have two little boys, (ages 2 and 4) so these would be perfect for a kid friendly space.
