Moving Writing

October 8, 2013

This post is a part of a 31 Days Challenge:

moving

Today, I had a quick conference with Amber after school about writing. We talked about progress and what really works for us.

I talked about how I have really seen my third graders grow as writers and I attributed it to the paragraph diagram. Gasp. Some of you may kill me because you hate it and that’s ok. Some of you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about…all you really need to know is that it’s a type of graphic organizer for prewriting.

But my whole point was that at first my students learned organization and then they learned how to add the fluff….but that took two more years.

I looked at Amber and said, “That’s my post for tonight!”

It’s just like our home, like our lives.

First, we must organize so we know how or where or when to add the “fluff.”

Make sense?

I need to completely organize before I can decorate.

I need to budget before I know what extra we have to spend.

I need to stop and pause to think before I add any more fluff.

As much as I’m dying to paint and recover my chairs and already redo the boys’ bathroom because the paint color didn’t turn out like I wanted…I must wait. I must organize, take deep breaths, and truly think before adding any more.

Are you with me?
